Praying For Our Kids

Before we had kids... Before we got married....
We would always talk about the outcome of parenting...what is the right or wrong way to parent?
We were raised in polar opposite environments, and yet we both experienced a ton of trauma that we felt set us back spiritually as adults. We knew we wanted our future kids to be super strong emotionally and spiritually. We came to a conclusion: PRAYER
It's been a non-negotiable for us. Each boy hears this prayer over him every day:
"God, in heaven. Bless this boy with everything he needs. Keep his eyes from evil. Give him wisdom to understand your ways. Help him to walk by faith. Give him courage to walk and fight for what is good. Let him know who you are and what path you want him to tread. Please guard his heart and give him strength to keep himself from temptation. Thank you God for putting this boy into our life and giving us the responsibility to raise him. Keep him strong and healthy. Give him rest and peace. Amen".
Our kids are little and I do not know what kind of adults they will be. But living in this crazy world, God forbid they ever doubt that I prayed or that I haven't dedicated their lives to the Father.
Pray for your children. Let them hear your prayers. Pray for them everyday. Pray for them when they are sick. Pray when they hurt. Pray over them when they are angry or sad and their attitude needs adjustment. Pray for them when they are anxious and can't sleep.
Teach the kids gratitude! Be thankful in your prayers for everything! Thankful for the good, the bad and the ugly. Thankful for the lessons we learn through pain and sorrow. I love hearing my kids list off all the things they are thankful for when they pray. Knowing the things they thank God about, helps me to know my children more.
When we pray as family, we always hold hands and I love the sense of connection and the feelings of love that surge through each hand. I love to see my family bonded by touch and by prayer. I love to watch my kids reach habitually for someone's hand when they pray.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be provided for you." Matthew 6:33
I like that you pray over your sons everyday. Good idea to share with other young families.
